The island experiences hot, dry summers, and it was precisely these conditions that inspired the creation of avarcas over a century ago. Local farmers needed footwear that could withstand the demanding terrain and climate. Crafted from natural leather and recycled materials, these sandals were engineered to keep feet cool, dry, and protected throughout long workdays. Our avarcas honor this authentic heritage, featuring soles made from recycled tires—a nod to both tradition and sustainability. Whether designed for women, men, or children, each pair celebrates the timeless Menorcan avarca while offering a versatile accessory for anyone who values quality craftsmanship and lasting style.

Pons shoes are sustainable.

Made since 1945 on the Spanish island of Menorca, Pons shoes are ethically made by hand with sustainability and longevity in mind. The raw materials are all sourced locally in Spain, including the rubber sole (the classic style features a sole made from 10% recycled tires) and the high-quality natural vecchio leather— which is sourced from ethically raised livestock. Available in 40+ different color ways, Pons are chrome dyed to strict EU REACH standards. The Pons workshop in Ciutadella (images below) is owned and operated by the third-generation of the Pons family and employs about a dozen local craftspeople, some who have spent their entire adult lives honing their shoemaking craft.

Mibo, authentic origin and passion for what is well done.

The company was founded in 1998 by two menorcan partners called Mr. Miguel Pascual and Mr. Bosco Moll. It is dedicated to designing, manufacturing and selling Avarcas which are traditional Menorcan shoes. Tourists are captivated by them and the majority take a pair home.

MIBO combines tradition and innovation. Designing, creating and manufacturing with the use of the tradition methodology and modern technology. As the company produces its own products, each client can choose colours-shades and different types of leather to their liking and own clients’ needs.
